Finally got me a diesel after driving F250 with the 460 for 2 years. I got me a 2000 crew cab dually with the PSD. I have been lurking around this forum for sometime now and you guys have been great in providing the info I am looking for. Mods will be coming up already have ideas of what route to take.
BTW. you guys have to forgive me for my newb questions. I am new to the diesel thing. most my cars RPM redline at 8K and when the kids ask why this truck's RPM goes up to 3K I have no answer.
Unless you have a MONSTER of a boat, you won't need to do anything. I pulled my Dad's 23' Walk-Around-Cuddy (about 6500 lbs) and it was like nothing was there.
Hey there, neighbor.
You'll be VERY surprised at how much more power for towing the diesel has VS that 460.
Night and day difference.
hello to you too fellow washingtonian. I was happy pulling with the 460. I pulled the same boat with a Nissan Titan for a year. Pulling with a gas motor is like watching dollar bills fly out the exhaust pipe. 6 to 7 mpg on the titan and 7 t 9 mpg with the 460. As of today, I can see better mpg already with the diesel. I cant wait to tow with it.
Welcome to FTE! Just leave your tranny in OD unless it is hunting for gears. Unless I am fairly heavy I just let the tranny shift down on it own on a grade. If I am heavy I'll hit the button as soon as I start loosing speed on the grade, but usually kick it back on and let the tranny shift back into OD at the top of the grade. The only reason I do that way is if you let the tranny shift on its own ,when you have say 8-10k on, is due to the loss of speed and momentum on a grade. Sometimes when you let the tranny shift on its own it looses too much speed and kicks off the cruise control. If you can keep the momentum and shift it down just a touch earlier alot of times it will pull the grade without hardly any loss of speed. Just my experiences with the automatics.
Filled up my tank after driving 302 miles and put in 22 gallons. Very happy with the mileage. Almost 14 in daily driving and 50% of it pulling a tow dolly with cars.
