Lightbulb Towing Mirrors

Hey Guys,
Just thinking about doing the towing mirror swap as i just got a new trailer that I will be hauling a couple of times a month. I am in dire need (or want) of the towing mirrors. Right now I have the all manual mirrors that are on the XL. I was looking over at FTE Parts Guy's web page and got the mirror numbers of

4L3Z-17682-BA & 4L3Z-17683-BA - Manual - Black Finish

This is what is indicated that will fit for my truck as I have no wiring for the power ones. My question is....I found another set on the ford accessory webpage and it is

4L3Z-17696-BA

Obviously the part numbers are not the same and I want the superduty style of mirrors (ie the blind spot mirror below the regular mirror).

My question is, what is the type of mirror that I am looking for and what are the part numbers. Am I on the right track and will it fit my 2005 F150 XL truck? Any insight on this matter would be appreciated!

Thanks,
~jstnromero

Oh yeah....Pictures would be appreciated of any installs that people have done!

I suggest you e-mail or give Ed a phone call.

Describe what you want, and he'll hook you up.

btw, the mirrors from any 2004 (NBS) through a 2009 will bolt up to your truck without any issues. So don't just limit yourself to a 04-08 style mirror. The 09 mirrors look pretty cool as well IMO

They will all fit your truck. I forget the part number off hand. They say 2007-2008 f150 telescopic mirrors I believe. Check out Tascafordparts.com I think thats the website. I ordered mine from them and they were 298 for all power except the telescopic part. They are the cheapest I have found and I did some looking around. Everywhere else still wants a lot for them. I have also heard the none power ones like no blinker and no power mirror are more then the power ones. Dont know if its still true. As far as install goes its easy. You have 2 screws on the bottom of your door, take off the speaker cover and remove 4 screws, and take off the panel behind the door lever and take out 2 screws there. Once you done that you pick straight up on the door panel and pop out the door handle assembly. Then you take 3 nuts of the mirrors and slide out and slide new mirror in. Its really easy

These the mirrors you want?

The part numbers you listed are the same as the pics but they are manual.

the ones I have are these....

7L3Z-17682-AE & 7L3Z-17683-AE

Power, Heat, Signal and Puddle Lamp - Black

If you are keeping with the manual ones install is very simple. Pull the door panel and bolt the new ones right up. Should not take more then 30 mins. a door.

They ran be 134.00 each at tascafordparts.com

Yes the same harness will work although if you have a Pre 07 F-150 you will need to move one pin location to make all the functions work. This is because pre 07 trucks use two ground wires and the new mirrors only use one. Move one ground wire to pin #8 from pin #9. Then simply cut the # 2 ground off and tape it.

IF you have a 07 or newer F-150 your truck will have the puddle lamp wire already in the door and is straight plug and plug, NO moving pins or adding wires. Just plug in the mirror and you are done.

This applies to ALL years, if your truck does not have heat and you want it you will have to change the heater control panel and also change the passenger side fuse block as it does not have the pins in it for the mirror heat fuses.

So let me get this straight, i move one pin location 8 to 9, then cut 2 and it will all work even though i don't have the puddle lamp and stuff already? (except for what i listed above?) i have a 2006 fx4 cc.

Yes, Signal and power will work by just moving the one pin location. Also since you already have heat now it also work. Puddle won't work unless you wire it in.

Your truck mirror harness looks like this now...

You want it to look like this.....

If you want to add the puddle lamp you can take the #2 pin your cutting off and move it to pin spot #11. Then run the wire through the door and into the drivers side sill plate.
Here's mine going from the door into the truck

Here is were you will find the dome light wire, black/blue. There are about 4 of them that are the same color in there so test it before, should turn the test light on with the dome light on.

Here's a pic, ignore the black wire that I am pulling up from the bottom, that is from back up lights I added. Your wire will come in through from the wire harness in the first pic. The red wire laying on top is my puddle lamp wire. Also you will have to run the passenger side puddle lamp wire across the dash, as this dome light wire is only found on the drivers side.

Here is a pic of the puddle lamps....after I changed all my lights to LED's

They are a lot brighter then they look

to remove the door panel:

1. pry the speaker cover off
2. unbolt the speaker & unplug wire harness
3. remove the access cover behind the door handle
4. remove those 2 bolts that were covered and pull the door handle loose
5. lift up the window switch & integrated plastic & disconnect those 2 pigtails
6. inside that cavity, remove the bolt connecting the arm-rest to the door frame
7. at the bottom of the door panel, there are 2 screws
8. lift the entire door trim upwards, then pull out

9. this exposes the bare door frame. you'll see 3 nuts.
10. remove those 3 nuts and mirror pops off

Thanks for the detailed information Ford FX4. It is greatly appreciated. Those part numbers if I am correct are the same ones I pulled off of the website just the ones for the power accessories. I guess I was on the right track. Thanks for all the help guys. I will install these mirrors by august (will start pulling the trailer on a more regular basis then) and promise to post pictures when I get done. Thanks for all the help once again.
