Have a C6 behind a 351m (and I don't really care what the m stands for)on my 78 F250. I am looking at putting in a 12v Cummins and have found an adapter for the C6 and the E4OD. I would like to put the engine in with the C6 and then put in a rebuilt/ modified E4OD later to spread out my costs. When I am ready, I would like to unbolt the C6 and slide in the E4OD. Does anyone know about the bolt patterns, what about the overall lenght, for driveline resizing?
Bolt pattern will be the same. (remember, big block C-6 needs big block E4OD) the length on the E40D is longer so that means modifying the driveshafts. The E4OD is an electronicaly controled transmission. C-6 is not. Lots of work and money you are looking at. C-6 is stronger/will last longer with that engine. Going with a V-12 are you? sounds spendy. Good luck

You seem to have good knowledge on trannys..... I just became the proud owner of a donor 85 Bronco w/302 and E4OD(?) tranny/transfer case. I am using the 302 in my Bronco, and neighbor would like to try the tranny on his 77 F150 w/ 460 C6. Do you know if there is an adaptor available, or will this tranny bolt up to the 460. I saw your comment regarding big block E4OD / big block C-6.
Altering driveshafts not a big deal. He'd just like to see how the OD works with his truck, plus it would give him time to rebuild his C-6.
Once again, I goofed..... The tranny I have is NOT an E4OD, but the older AOD....DUH. Same question though...is there an adapter available to mount the AOD to a 460?

The AOD was never built to go behind the big block, it will not handle the torque. If you want overdrive you need to get the E4OD and then upgrade it to 1996 specs to keep it from failing prematurely. Deen
