You'd have to be VERY stong to move those clutch fingers. The throw-out bearing (release bearing) should slide on the shaft with ease (a shot of grease is good) Your connecting arm should go on the bearing and the bearing should NOT TOUCH the clutch fingers.
The release bearing should ride just behind the clutch fingers without touching them. About 1/8" at least.
If this is a new cluth, it might be the wrong one or may have adjustments for the fingers. I think the three finger style clutch has adjustment bolts on them but I could be wrong.
If this is a new clutch, I'd adjust the push rod down and try again because you usually have to re-adjust it each time you re-install a clutch. If you don't have an adjustable rod, you can get them from Napa, but I haven't seen one that's not adjustable.
Make sure the connecting arm is setup properly, it should be on a pivit (good idea to grease it) then should have clips or slots on the release bearing. You might have had the fork behind the bearing instead of on the bearing.
Make sure the bearing is not bound up on something and moves freely.
