vehicle speed sensor
I went to smog my 99 ford f250 super duty yesterday and the check engine light came on and it came up with code p0500- vehicle speed sensor malfunction. I puchased a new sensor from napa (part number vss333) and i was told it could be one of two places- on the tranny or on the rear differential- still cant locate it and no one has been able to tell me a definitive answer. do i even have the right part?

Welcome to FTE.
It should be located on top of the rear differential housing, with a 2 wire plug that goes into it. It has an 8mm bolt that holds the sensor down. just unplug and unbolt and replace

The location of the VSS is not engine specific, nor year specific.
They ALL are at the top of the center section of the rear differential.
Yes, you will likely get better help on the 7.3 forum, including chassis, interior, and other powertrain items, not just the engine.
