1966 Trans Help

My truck currently has the original 352 in it, with a NP435 that the PO installed. I have found a nice 390 w/ C6 combo in good condition that I would like to install. I know the engine mounts right in, my question is do I need a different trans. mount for this application? And will it even fit, seeing as this transmission wasn't offered in '66? Thanks for any insight on this.

My truck had a 3spd and the C6 bolted up without any changes. I think I have read other trannys will do the same.

The only thing is the transmission crossmember may have to slide back about 4 inches or so if your going from cruiseomatic. Sorry but didn't see NP435. Need to read a lil slower like I type.

My 390 and NP came out for a 460/C6 and I don't remember anything odd at all. Might of had to move the crossmember a bit, but it's the same crossmember/mount. I think John is right, wide variety of trans combinations work with stock crossmember and mount. Do you have a long bed/two piece drive shaft?

Yall jogged my memory, I did have to move it back but didn't have to use a different part. Sorry

And make the cross support for the radius arms removable. The C6 will no how or no way come out under the truck in the future if this mod is not made.

66 Factory automatic equipped truck frame have this already the manual frames do not.

Welcome to FTE

You should ask this question in the 1973/79 forum.

When you do....I'll give you the "fix."

Thanks for all the replies on this...kinda going into this blind. I've never done a powertrain swap before. The truck is in fact a long bed with 2 piece drive-shaft. Can I get a new drive shaft from a donor truck for this or will I need to have one fabbed up?

I'm not sure the donar will fit, but it may be worth looking into a one piece. Sometimes the support and splines are worn enough to vibrate and dance around enough to be a real problem.
