I for one would not voluntarilly hum my 5.0 along at 3k for extended periods. Not because i think it would blow up, but because the fuel mileage would be pretty bad and it gets LOUD! Then again, i have full exhaust with "mufflers", if you know what i mean .

Just tonight i pulled a rather large hill in fifth at 1300 rpm. Needed 5 inches of vacuum to do it, but it did it just fine.

F150 for front axle it kind tweak so it wear tire out fast so we are check that since tires cost me $500 so I would like keep tires for 40,000 miles instead 15,000 miles.

gear ratio is 3.55 but try 3.00 it too weak for what I need but could cruise 90 mph easy. But it been remove off road since March 16 it cost lot for gas so I am use Geo for now.

Are you in West Virgina now?
Good luck to you man, trust me I know how it feels right now!

Yes, I'm in WV now. We're looking for a home. This is the most beautiful place I've ever seen in my life. It's just awesome. I love it here. The weather is beautiful. Nice and cool, and low dew point. I feel like I jumped out of Hell and landed in Heaven. I'm in a congested part so the traffic royally SUCKS!!!!!!!, but it's amazing in the sticks.

Boy I would have thought it would be different. I guess in reality, the more RPM's you spin, the more horsepower you're producing, the more fuel you're sucking down.

You have 45 more hp than I do so naturally your engine should use more fuel than mine, especially with no OD, so your fuel mileage sounds about right.

These are trucks, not little Hyrbid cars that we all pick from our grills from time to time.

Oh and I understand the loud part. I cut my tail pipes off and at a certain rpm I can't hear myself think. It sounds really good though for an I6, I love it.

Yeah i think youre right. Not necessarily you are producing more hp, but that you can. And FWIW, ive never done an extended gas mileage test using fourth instead of fifth. at 70 mph, fourth will give me like 3200 rpm, and fifth yields 1900. My worst/best ileage in the city is 16/23, highway is 24/34, usually average about 20 city and 27 highway.

+1 on the truck vs hybrid comment...my bros gf has a prius and everytime i get in it i remember why i put up with rusty bolts, bloody knuckles, dirt under my fingernails, etc...

hehe yeah when i was putting the exhaust on my 300 i fired it up with just the open header. That was fun. Its got a 2.5" dynomax superturbo on it now and sounds pretty good, i think.

I think you could add an OD tail to your tranny if you wanted. Not sure though.

You may have missunderstood me. I didn't say I have a beef with anything new.. I just don't like small cars (I do have a beef with hybrids tho. They are the biggest joke..). Let's face it, and we can probably all agree, when we drive our trucks we feel like we have the biggest Roosters in our county. No little Prius is going to make me feel that way. I've ridden in newer trucks and nothing does it for me like our Old Fords. My dad was driving my truck the other day and I was riding in the passenger side. Riding in the truck made me fee like I was in a tank! These trucks just have an essence about them. That big ole' gnarly hood, the growl from the motor..

You get that kind of fuel mileage with your 300? That's amazing. Does it have 3.08 or 3.55 gear ratio? Do you have cats on the truck? I always wondered how a turbo muffler would sound on a 300.

I love the feeling of these trucks, too. Like said, they feel like riding in a tank. I've always loved the feeling of 'old trucks' since I was a kid. The extra headroom is what does it for me, lol.

So, Bill, your truck is running fine now? I didn't quite understand, was it running odd back when you pulled that trailer around? Did you reset the battery right before or after you towed? My timeline got messed up somewhere, lol. I know you've said that it's always kind of had it's days. It would be nice to find out that it's a bad sensor.

Where are ya at on the map now, btw?

That's the word, right there! Tank! That is what they feel like. When you start one up, you just feel like you can plow through anything.

Yup. The darn moody truck is running like a champ now. The problem was my truck was absolutely gutless coming up here. I drove over 1,100 miles. At 45 to 55 or so the truck just felt like it couldn't accelerate at all. -shrug- The power loss gap is still there, but it's not bad like it was. The truck is running fine now.

I've over here in Cross Lanes, WV. Man this place is beautiful!!!! I love it here. The mountans here are gorgeous and the weather is beautiful. It doesn't get warm untill the afternoon, and then quickly cools off.

I'm sure your truck loves the mountains with the 300-6 and the 4.10's, too. Maybe a little mountain air is what it has needed all along, lol.

The truck doesn't do too bad bee-bopping up hill. Kinda sad but I don't notice much of an acceleration difference on flat land or going up a hill. I had to pull out into traffic going up hill and I thought I was going to die, but Ole' Betsy got me out of the way. I'm glad I installed the low gear ratio now!

This mountan air is something else. It always smells sweet! It's June and my dad is wearing a sweater. It's been cool all day. I can't get over this place.

Winter here is going to suck. I wonder what people do when they can't start their cars? I mean, I would think the Boss' around here would just expect their employies to be late durring winter sometimes, right? And I'm wondering how you come off a mountan if the road is slicked up.

I guess I'll have to learn how to handle the winter's here the hard way (is there another way? lol).

aww, come on, winters in west virginia aint nothin, move up to the massachussetts, new hampshire area and then learn what a real winter is lol.

i never had any problems starting the ole 300 in the winter, it just took a few more seconds of turning the engine over. ive had a couple 302s that got tempermental in the winter, including my current truck, but never had that problem with a 300. long as your ignition, and compression is good you wont have much to worry about.

keeping control of the truck in the snow however, was a whole another story. just take it easy, and eventually youll be a pro at it.

and to relieve stress from winter driving, find yourself an empty snow covered parking lot, and its donut time!!!

Hey buddy!!!!

You have to keep in mind, I'm from the deep south. We never really got real winters. Snow is something Alien to me. I'm looking forward to it, though. I'm looking forward to doing donuts too. My locker should make for some fun times in these situations! He he!

I'm glad to hear you say that about the 300. Everyone seems to say the same thing. How about driving down a mountan? How do you keep from losing traction and sliding down the road? Do you just go real real slow?

yeah, keeping some weight in the back with 2wd is about the best thing you can do. we used to throw about 4 or 5 cinder blocks back there for the winter. being a truck, it has no weight in the back which makes for crappy traction. since youve got 31's you might fair a little better, if theyve got a somewhat aggressive tread design. it all comes down to tires, how much weight in the back, and try to keep the revs down, and obviously dont drive too fast, but dont be crawling along at 10mph either.

Thanks Man. I've got the tires and respect of the road. I planned on using sandbags or something along those lines for bed weight for winter. The flareside beds are very light.

These goat trails up here sure are tempting. Every one I see I want to crawl up in my truck, rofl. I can forsee buying a 4x4 sometime in the future.

Winter driving while challenging can be kind of fun if the roads aren't clogged. I have always preferred manual transmissions and REAL snow tires here in New England.
My 92 F150 work truck has an automatic and it can be started in second gear which really helps starting off at slick intersectons. My personal truck is a 5 speed and it does very well in the snow for a 2WD. Its an extended cab with dual tanks and a couple of hundred pounds of tools in the bed mounted box. If a storm is coming I will fill both tanks for added ballast. The 300/C6 drive train was a favorite with a lot of plow operators.
The big problem in snow is stopping and turning. Keep your speed down and find a nice empty parking lot at the first snow and go out and play. Kind of like driving fast on a dirt road at a third of the speed. Just be careful of the light poles! Don't ask me how I know.
