i was talking about the fuel filters not the oil filter.
silly34,
when they are new they stay stuck in place where they are supposed to go but can come loose after they've been installed for a while so they don't pull out with the filter. hang tight i'll post some pics of what they look like.
Silly, were talking oil filters. Racor, Motorcraft and Fram CH9549's are all made by Racor and the top piece does not come off. Wix and possibly some others have this snap on adapter and will void your engine warranty if you have any problems concerning oil and that includes injectors since they are oil fired.
Ok, just so I'm clear. When I pulled my top fuel filter I really had to yank on the thing to get it out. The new one I placed in didn't snap in place and when I pushed down it felt spongey. I thought when I put the cap back on it would hold it in place. Do I need to go re-inspect?
That I can't tell u without feeling it myself however, the fact that it started right up and has no issues should indicate that it did seat and you have no issues.
Do I need to purge immediately after installing the first filter and then install and purge the second filter or can I just purge after both have been installed?
Thanks!
silly, i believe the OP was about fuel filters!
motorcraft and only motorcraft
this is the spacer with fingers inside the small filter.
this is the one inside the water/fuel separator
i changed the filters at a buddies shop who was a powerstroke tech at ford for years and was one of the top diesel techs in the south east and he's the one that pointed this out to me. he said it's one of the most overlooked problems on these trucks.
those spacers can and do come out. i have first hand experience!
did you change them yourself previously? if not are you sure they were Motorcraft filters? if they are aftermarket or "will fit" filters it may not have them in it and it's a good thing you replaced them. if you did change them yourself previously and you're sure they are motorcraft then you might wanna check it.
Ok just finished checking and everything looks good. The more I think about the more I suspect the old filters I took out are not Motorcraft. They don't have the same mesh surrounding the pleats nor are they the same color. I've learned a lesson though..always always double check shiznit!
I'm thinking about doing the transfer case next when I do the oil change this weekend. Looks pretty easy too and no idea when it was last done. I'd like to get the tranny flushed but am concerned it might tear something up. I've always heard of trannys going bad after stuff like that.
