my 1977 f-150 351m, when you first crank it, the oil pressure runs at 55psi, after it warms up it drops to 13psi. is that to low? is so what is a normal oil pressure when wamed up?
The 351M/400 motors are kinda famous for having very low oil pressure at idle. I've heard of cases of 5psi or less. We are talking idle right? Are you hearing ticky lifters?
i have an oil pressure problem with my 302 but the rear main is leaking so i think thats probly the problem. im going to replace the rear main this weekend so that will hopefully solve the problem.
my 302 runs sometimes close to 60 psi, but thats with ftf (foot to floor), usually runs bout 20-45 cruisin, depending on temp and rpm's.............. 18-20 is low, but its somethin.... I'd get the oil restricter kit, then an oil pump
when i replace the rear main im going to put in a high flow oil pump
would you mean high PRESSURE or high VOLUME???? there is a difference and yes they do sell both, 351M/400's need higher pressure, just in case you didnt know

The 351M's were famous for loosing oil pressure, I have one noe that does exaclty what yours does. Good pressure cold then it drops right off when hot. If the rest of the engine is good , doesn't knock or smoke. I would replace the mains and rod bearings. If they are the stock ones in the engine now, you can order 2 thou oversize to cover crankshaft wear and a few hours later you should have good pressure again.I did this to 2 of mine years ago and they ran for years afterwords and I have a 4X4 now that I'm fixing that will get the same treatment. If the engine is shot , swap in a 460,easy to swap in, same gas milage , more power and they are bullet proof.
