c6 hard to shift
Hi everyone. I'm new to this sight. Been reading alot and like what I see. Just bought '79 F150 short bed 4x4, auto c6, 400 motor. I'm having trouble shifting truck into drive. The column shift is fine going into reverse but very stiff going into drive. Any help?

Disconnect the shifter rod at the transmission linkage and see if the transmission can select all the gear ranges without binding up. Make sure to chock the wheels as it might start to roll after moving the linkage out of park. If it feels the same for all ranges it is most likely a shifter linkage problem. Make sure there is nothing in the way of the linkage that would cause it to hang up, wires, hoses, ect.
