Restoration prices

Does this seem like a correct and accurate restoration price. $50,000 seems kinda high.

It is only reasonable if you happen to have that kind of disposable income and you really want it. As for me, the answer is no,but that is at least in part because the real thrill for me is taking a real POS and turning it into something that pleases me.

Those kind of prices are paid by people who can't and/or won't do that kind of work themselves. That's not a put down, it's a proven observation.

Later Man...

A guy in our club just paid $32,000 for paint and body work on a 53 F100. Just because the seller PAID that amount doesn't mean that the vehicle has that amount of added value. It's an old advertising trick, establish an inflated value for an item an then discount it greatly to give a prospective buyer the sense that they are getting a bargain.

But he's only asking $34,900!

To say one has $50k invested is a subjective number. Does that include every hour spent on the restoration? And at what cost per hour?

I have been to the BJ auction and it is amazing what people will pay for a vehicle they like/want.

I wouldn't doubt that he has $50K stuck in it, especially if he just took it to a shop and said, "Have at it". Shop time at $75-100 can add up real quick. It's also stated that the truck has new wheels and tires. If it actually has new wheels, not reconditioned used ones, with tires that could be around $3K alone.

I personally wouldn't pay near $45 grand for a truck like that, maybe $25K, if it was done correctly to the letter and was completely finished, and if I had $25K to throw on a truck. As stated in their ad:
"The remaining items include wood for the bed and stake sides, speedometer, windows, and radio as well as a few other minor repairs (a few paint chips, and stress cracks in the running boards)."
That's a lot, IMO, that still needs to be done for a $45K truck.

The seller should have added that you must be 60 years or older and bring your granddaughter along. That's the kind of guy I see paying the big bucks for the BJ auctions. I find it amazing that so many of these old farts can persuade their granddaughters to come to the auction with them, wait a minute, maybe they aren't their granddaughters

P.S. I would think someone looking to get $45K for a truck would post more and better pictures. You can hardly see any of the cracks or nicks he mentions. Also, take the pictures in the late morning or early afternoon so you have some light.

In the latest Custom Classic Trucks, there is a yellow 56 restored to original style, but NOT to ORIGINAL.(headers on a 6cyl, power steering). the article quotes $45,000.

why would you go thru all that cost for not really original?

My 48 Panel is up for $56,900.00 FIRM
Write the check - when it clears I'll start gathering the parts to crate up.
Thats correct - Not only a Crate Engine - The whole thing will be in a crate.

You won't find that very often.

Send PM if interested. (Except you Jon Finn)

I would not be surprised to come home to an empty garage if the wife was offered even $4500.

The market for an F-4 is a quarter that for an F-1. Notice that the seller on eBay is one of those "Let us list it for you" outfits that operates on commission. So the owner is also too lazy to list it himself.

3 pictures?? For a 34k vehicle?

I search the east coast for trucks and muscle cars......I have been quoted 20k for a panel truck....worth 10k.....to me.
50K into this truck mentioned is toooo much, but some guys do invest tooo much moola into these old trucks.
I admire these pristine trucks, but do not want one. Like Boley said....the pleasure is taking a pos and making it drivable and makes me happy!
I have met guys with 100k invested in their cars....not me......the problem to me is...buy 10 trucks and make them 5000 dollar drivers instead of 1 worth 50k and you might sell it for 30k........stupid!!! just my opinion,,,,so don't hate me...LOL

I am over 60 and I don't have either a granddaughter or a niece. If I did I wouldn't insult her by dragging her to that high priced dog and pony show. As for price, I can build just about anything I want for 10K, and have more fun building it than those clowns will ever have driving their overpriced toys. However, that said, there will always be people like this with more money than good sensecreating inflated artificial values for stuff that really isn't worth that much so you might as well get used to it.

Later...
