400 crankshaft ding
hey guys im trying to get this motor back together and in doing so with the motor still in the vehicle one of the rod bolts hit the crank journal my question will it be fine if i just smooth it out and put it back together? its a very small ding like less than half a finger nail clipping.

Some good emery cloth or fine sandpaper. Just make sure you get it out. Anything that you can feel with your finger nail can and will do damage.
My teacher at diesel college always asks us "Do you just want it to run, or do you want it to run a long time?'' You wouldnt think something like this would matter but it does lessen the life of the engine even though you may not notice it.
