I resently granaded the 5.4 in my 1999 f250 ld and found a good deal on a 2005 5.4 with 65,000 on it. I was wondering if anyone here knew if everything would work...ie sensors, computer and such, or was there changes that would make it a pain in the butt.
The three valve wont interchange without heavy mods like a wiring harnessfor the engine and trans ,and a pcm.you will also have a check engine light for the lack of a turbine shaft sensor on your trans.

What motor years would interchange? I am a Chevy convert and still learning the Ford.
You want '99-'03 F150/Expedition or '00-'04 Superduty. the Sd engines may require you to use your old intake and/or a few sensors. Personally I'd even stay away from '99s as it just wasn't a great year.

Hi - I'm new to this site and Fords...so I'm going to hijack a thread right off the bat, but for good reason. I have the same issue...I inherited a '98 Expedition with a bad 5.4 engine. I have the opportunity to pick up an '05 5.4 that comes with all the accessories, wiring harness, computer, etc. Are you saying that this swap shouldn't even be attempted? Is it too much of a hassle with computer issues? I would really like get some more info before I make the decision on the '05 engine.
