I picked up a 76 Ford F350 with a 460. It runs well, has pretty low miles but the left front lifter is tapping. The truck sat alot.
Anyone have any advo on this 460 ? I was thinking of changing the oil often with some Delo 400 diesel oil, which has alot of detergents and change it often maybe its clogged ? I'd rather not put much money or time in it for now. Open to suggestions !
Heavier the oil is harder it is for the oil pump to push it, now, think what the dizzy gear & that pump shaft got to go through trying to push that heavy oil.
I never even thought about it myself untill I tryed to prime the engine with a shaft & drill. Wasnt but a second or two that drill started smoking & far as I know its a regular OEM pump.
More than likely you either have a rocker arm or the fulcrum it rides on worn & maybe a bent push rod because the rockers are non adjustable bolt down type.
I know it would be a bugger pulling that valve cover off, but sounds like what needs to be done to find out for sure.

Thought I'd update this, I ended up replacing a pushrod and now it's quiet and up for sale.
