Hey have any of y'all found or made some kind of spacer to put on your window cranks so that they clear the door panel when you roll the window up and down? Right now they scratch a big circle on the plastic whenever i crank 'em. Seems like a pretty basic little problem but I thought i'd check and see if some one of y'all has solved it already.
hmm...maybe i do have the wrong handles...i'll double check...the door panels i saw at the wrecking yard all had the same circular scratches around where the crank should go so i assumed it was a universal problem...
The only time I've seen that is with the wrong or aftermarket handles.
There is a spring that goes between the mechanism and panel on the inside and a plastic thrust washer that goes between the handle and panel on the outside.
BTW Em: I don't know if you saw, but I found you one lick slider today. Still searching for a second.
There is a round white plastic washer that fits under the handle that keeps the handle from digging into the plastic door panel.
Part number: C8AZ-6223370-A
Most people forget to put it back on, when they have had the door panel off.
As for the Door handles, These are widely avaliable either aftermarket (But not of OEM quality) or at the wreckers as well. Need to see a picture to determin what you have.
i went grabbed a couple of handles off an 82 from the wrecking yard...it does look like the ones on my truck are aftermarket...i'll see if the new ones work and double check on that spring and that washer...
you could also check if somebody put aftermarket speakers in the doors, they could be pushing the door panel out.i have this problem on mine.my door panels are trashed any ways so i'll fix it on a later date.
speakers! that's something i hadnt thought of! ok cool y'all have given me lots of stuff to check on...i'm sure one of those things is bound to be the problem...thanks!!
i had the same problem with the speakers in my truck. I found that most of the higher end ones the tweeter sat out to far. i ended up putting in components to solve that problem
