ok guys i just bought a travel trailer and it has reverse lights. is there a place on the factory 7 way plug that will give me rev lights from the truck?
It should be pin 7 with the BK/LG wire, not pin 6.
Pin 7 is the one offset in the center. It is fed by a relay in the under-hood fuse panel. Power to that relay is provided by fuse F5 which also feeds the trailer running lamp circuit.
Fuse #5 (20a) Trailer Tow Backup/Park Lamps
Fuse #19 (10a) Trailer Tow Stop and Right Turn Lamp
Fuse #20 (10a) Trailer Tow Stop and Left Turn Lamp
Fuse #101 (30a) Trailer Tow Battery Charge
Fuse #108 (30a) Trailer Tow Electric Brake
Relay #201 Trailer Tow Park Lamp Relay
Relay #203 Trailer Tow Backup Lamp Relay
Relay #302 Trailer Tow Battery Charge Relay
IIRC there were some relays in the same bag as the brake controller harness and the 4 pin adapter that came in our truck. I don't remember what they are for though.
Set your e-brake, turn the key on, shift into reverse, check for power on pin #7. If you have power on pin #7 with the truck's reverse lights on and you don't when the truck's reverse lights are off, then you're all set.
