Well I don't have an expensive truck or a discount on my ins.. State Farm said they are pretty common here in Az so they don't give discounts for them anymore and I have full insurance with the highest limits you can carry (100,000/300,000,/100,000). I was pissed when I found out I wasn't getting a discount, that was one of the reasons I got it. That and I guess lifted fords are the most common stolen trucks here so I figured it couldn't hurt to have it on the truck. Hopefully I never need but if I do it better do it's damn job.
Id be pretty pissed if State Farm didnt give me a discount and the installer didnt show me where it was located when they installed it! Fraud hell...pissed yes...where you gonna hide your truck at?! lol
Lol they train you to stop and put it elsewhere if the owner starts looking. Its by lojack and we were obligated to their orders or we no longer are allowed to work for them.
Its usually by the heater core on trucks, above the rear strut or the header panel behind the seats next to the speakers, sometimes in the headliner if there is a console in it.
I usually find them when we strip cars to recycle them. We used to do autobody work so we'd buy cars for parts.
Its not usually hard to find.
It requires power, so any circuit thats drawing power with your vehicle off is suspect.
I have a meter that checks draw on any wire.
My buddy wondered where his was located on his car.
I found it for him in about 2 minutes.
Pooped out the glove box, and there it was.
Any good thief will just park your vehicle in a metal shop, trailer, or container, which blocks the signal, and makes them useless.
It does allow you to find your stolen vehicle if ripped off by amateurs though.
Those BIG time theieves have stuff down to a science it seems.
From laptops that bypass your chipped car key fob, to turnning off your alarm, and killing the signal from your lojack.
A guy here had a very sweet Ducati, so put lojack on it.....When he woke up to find it stolen, there was no signal from it.
So he lost his bike without a trace.

And there's a ton of amateurs.
We had a guy rob a fast food restaurant in a rented car that he'd fraudulently rented. What he didn't know is that the rental car company can disable the starter by satellite, kind of like OnStar can unlock your doors. Makes it a bit tougher to make your getaway when your car won't start and is sending its GPS coordinates to home base...
I normally tell people that they're car will be recovered within 3 days or never. If you don't find it in that time frame, its probably parts.
No...Actually he is from Kelowna.....and his bike stolen in kelowna.
Probably a bit much to expect any further discounts from ICBC with a Lojack I assume?
What we really need to start solving the problem of vehicle theft is governments that stop scolding the criminals and start putting serious sentences to the convicted.
100+ years ago, judges would hang you for stealing a man's horse, now there are experienced thieves busted numerous times who will probably never stop, only on probation, or out of jail in weeks.

I agree 100%, the laws are a joke here.
I say if caught stealing, cut off their right hand, and make them do manual labour with the remaining hand for 10 years, 7 days a week, and earning 10 dollars a day....then charge them $10 a day for food and shelter.
If they steal again, just use them for bait in traps.

Thats a great story....lol
Stupid people are always good for a few laughs, thats for sure.
I actually made a protective little case for my DP controller. It is lined with foam, and closes nicely. I will take a pic tomorrow. Use it all the time, when the hairs stand up in certain neighborhoods.
To quote myself, here is the pics. I used the case that my Harley key came in. A little foam trimming, and it protects awesome. Also keeps it clean and free of lint in your pocket
