i have an 86 f-150 and my frame is cracked. i was wnadering if anyone knows the measurements from out-side to out-side of the frame in the front. any help is greatly appreciated.
Well, my cross member under the motor is cracked, which led to the seperation of the ttb axle, which led to my passenger side axle shaft not reaching all the way. so if you know, or could find out the distance from out-side to out-side in the very front of the frame, i would greatly appreciate it.
i dont know. it looks like the previous owner jumped it. the front coil springs are sagging as well. i got it for $1600 and its got a 302 board out to a 306 fuel injection, with an RV cam, shift kit in the tranny, and air ride in the back. so it wasnt a bad deal at all. i mean im a steelworker for the Navy Seabees so the welding is at no cost to me. ive put a total of about $100 into it.
well welcome to FTE, and that is a sweet deal, keep us posted on how it turns out.....
hey you couldent by any chance drop by branson and weld a muffler on a cutlass could you????
i tried...

If it is the crossmember under the engine, plan on pulling the engine to do it right
well, i got it done!!! i took a 5000lb cargo strap and pulled it together then tacked it in place, after all the prep work, then welded it and it works great. the only problem is that my axle shaft still seems to be a little short. so ill probably just get the longer one.
where the hell is branson? if its in so cal, no prob just give me your number!
yeah i slid the boot back so you could see how far out it was. theres only like 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of splines in there. its just enough to hold on. i dont want to take it wheelin just incase it falls out or breaks.
Sounds like you have something out of line or bent, maybe not enough to be noticable at a glance. I would look the front end over real good for marks from stretched/compressed metal. I'm not real sure if your 150 is the same measurements as my 100 but I think they are and when I get home I will take a couple measurements and post them up. BTW you should be fine driving it this way but I just wouldn't put it in 4wd until this is fixed because it is pretty easy to flex that 1/2" and let it fall out doing alot more damage.
ok thanks, i think the measurements should be the same. and i totally under stand, i didnt intend on putting it in 4x4. now i know that my front springs are sagging quite drastically. so i know that that will play a part in it. also, i know that they make longer shafts for the lifted trucks. so ill ask arround at some 4x4 shops to see if they have any. thank you very much for all the help!
