Following this forum advice and having experience with coolant filter from bigger engines in RV -I installed a commercial bypass filter on my Powerstroke.
Commercial filter has a chemical pass that balance SCA. That is especially important on wet sleeves diesels, like Detroit, but I figured out that even Ford is not such a case -the extra protection never hurts.
I was talking to a guy at school who used to work at a place that makes Bio diesel. he said he could help me make a system so I could start making it myself. He said the only thing I needed to make sure of before I used the bio diesel was that I had a water block filter and it would be preferred that I change it. I had never heard of it as a water block filter? but I am guessing it is a water separator for the fuel? I didn't really go into what it was with him.
biodiesel goes straight to the tank with no modifications.
I burned about 4 tanks when I had a chance to buy it at discount. The engine run much quieter, but with noticeable power drop -especially when cold.

I suspect your friend is referring to a water-blocking fuel filter.
There are spin-on fuel filters that contain cornstarch that absorb an amount of water, then "block" (clog) it when saturated and unable to absorb any more. They're not commonly used, and today a water-separating filter is more common. At least two companies make them, Dahl (Baldwin) and Racor (Parker-Hannifin).

Google can be your friend, as can be eBay.

I believe that is what he was talking about. So I would have to add one if I wanted one? Where would you suggest adding one and how hard is it? Do I just splice it into the line after the pump or before?
the bio diesel he makes does not require the heating of the fuel. You just filter the veggie oil, add cetane booster, and Kerosene. There is a little more to it then that but that is the basic idea. He said they put it in a truck without a water block filter and it started running like crap. So I would have to add one? If you want to check the company out here is the link: Home
