Power output down

I bought an '03 F250 4x4 w/ 6.0L motor back in Feburary. Love this truck. It had about 128,000 mi. on it when I bought it. since then I have put about 6000 more miles on it with seemingly no problems. I've changed the oil and filters like i'm supossed to. And tried to keep up on all the maitenence to the best of my abillity. I am new to deisel engines so I have very little experiential knowledge at my disposal.

The only major modification I have done is the tire size. I went from a 33" tire to a 36" tire. At the time that I changed the tire size I noticed little to no difference in power output. Acording to my gps I have decreased the rpm's by about 10% at crusing speed.

Yesterday I drove about 50 miles to an event, no noticable problems. On the way home I noticed that at cruising speed (about 1500 rpm) it seemed to have a driveshaft vibration that went away with a little throttle input. I don't think that it is a driveshaft issue because this morning when I started it up and went to town the motor felt like it had a miss and that seemed to coincide with the vibration feeling.

Could this be an engine problem or possibly a transmission problem?

That was the first trip on a fresh tank of fuel. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Any help or advise is greatly apreaciated, John.

Could be the fuel. Did you change the fuel filters or just the oil filter? When you went to a 36" tire did you install a lift? You might have a driveshaft shudder if you didn't drop the carrier bearing down.

No lift installed, Just what was on the truck when I bought it. I don't think that has much to do with it because I have put about 1500 miles on it since then with no problems (unless something is coming loose underneath).

I did not change the fuel filter. Didn't even think about it. Looks like I know what I'm doing this afternoon.

How did you fit 36" tires on a stock truck? I know 35's rub pretty bad.

Also make note that there are 2 filters. Make sure you ONLY get Motorcraft or Racor. DO NOT use Wix or other will fit filters.

Sorry, a little misleading. I didn't install a lift. But there is one under the truck. The tires rub the plastic when I turn but not that bad. Will be fixing that issue in the near future.

Time to recheck the suspension and driveline hardware for tightness I'd say. What gears are you running?

Sorry I missed the engine miss in your first post. Have you considered Riggz's question? could easily be the fuel or filters.

I'm realy hoping that it is fuel related (easy to solve) problem. I'm going to go and pick up some new filters and install them.

If it's the fuel itself is there any hope of an additive that will help or am I stuck with pumping it out and replacing it? Not looking forward to relacing 30 gollons but I guess it's cheaper than a component failure.

So the ex-wife brought over a code reader and the code that it gave me is P006A Manifold absolute pressure and P0403 EGR. I expected the EGR code because I was playing around with disconnecting the EGR valve.

Does that sound like it would cause that kind of problem? Again thanks for any help/advise.

You could still have a drive shaft shudder if your carrier bearing wasn't shimmed when the lift was installed. Try clearing the codes, driving around a bit and see if they come back up.

Focus on the EGR problem, that WILL cause a power decline and what feels like a miss.
