51 f1
A body off build, most of the sheet metal work is complete a little more to go, but floor installation has to wait until motor is installed so modifications can be made
IFS suspension already welded in,
460 motor and c-6 rebuilt and ready to go.
need suggestions for motor mount style and suppliers
recently acquired a dying 93 explorer, plan to use rear setup and any other servicable parts before sending it off to crusher
would appreciate any suggestions, input, etc.
Have already copied relevant info from FAQ and articles posted on this site.
Thanx
Start by using blocks, cribbing, shims, slings, or whatever else to get it securely supported in there where you want it. Then, go look through a motor mount paper catalog at a parts store for various 460 stock mount applications. There will be a couple different designs for trucks, cars, etc. Look at the pictures and pick a set of pads that it looks like you car easily attach to the frame. Once they are on the engine, it's just a matter of bridging the gap. You can look at aftermarket mounts and other people's builds to get some idea of what works and how to go about it. It will require some fab and welding, but if you've already installed an IFS, that shouldn't be an issue.
Here's a pic of what I came up with on my '51 F-1 for a 351W, AOD, and Cordoba IFS. The shot is a little odd because the frame is disassembled for blasting. My design got a little more complicated than what is really necessary, but it looks and works good! You can usually get away with bar stock and pipe.
Also looking for suggestions for donated steering columns.
Want to use as many FORD items as humanly possible
Anyways they cost like heck but I sure like the looks (with a little gusseting) of tinmans mounts (please keep me posted on your project).

The picture is upside down to installation.
There have been a number of threads about re engining and 460, but as you have probably discovered, our search function is garbage so any historical info is almost impossible to find. Here are some links about re engining that might shed some light:

There are a couple guys doing 460 in the F1 but I can't for the life of me remember who they are, but they will come along I'm sure.
In the mean time the links I posted has some good info and to become familiar with guys who are doing the 460 thing.

Not as such, just information you can accumulate from this site and others including aftermarket products.
The 302 is smaller then the Y block and has more much more after market parts available plus is a newer design so would “IM not SHO” make a better transplant.
Rather then tag on to a not really related thread you would get more responses by starting a new thread, I think, oh and welcome.

Just signed up to find information. I don't even know how to post a question/start a new thread! So, I was coasting on your tail winds!
Pretty sad.
But, the 239 is shot - leaky first 6month motor. Hoping to find advice on locating a motor, 292 or a 302 for easiest modification? and hoping for help/advice.
Thanks.
I'll figure out how to start a new thread.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I've got to Echo what Old said. This sight IS the corporate knowledge when it comes to these mods.
If yo can't use the search and find th eanswers (like no one else can either) many of us have saved the links to the previous discussions (like I posted above) and are more than willing to help.
If you want to start a new thread (like introdcing yourself to everyone) just go to the home page for this (48-60) forum and there is a box on the far left about 8 inches down from the top that says "New Thread"
The 460 conversion conversation always gets plenty of attention.
Welcome to FTE by the way!
