Motorcraft electric fuel pump is re-boxed airtex.

Man I screwed this one up...I was looking at the Airtex replacement pump assemblies but I thought the convoluted tubing, especially on the high pressure supply side was a bit cheesy and the overall quality appeared worse than the original fuel pump assembly. The sock filter on the Airtex is about half the size of the unit on my original pump module. Decided to call Ford, my general mantra is use the money I save on labor by DIY to buy the highest quality parts. Airtex $238+shipping from Northern or Rock Auto, Motorcraft from my local ford Dealer $392+tax. Started messing with the original setup and decide maybe to rebuild it. It had a Walbro pump in the module, cool, easy to replace. Hanger was in good condition w/ no rust, cool. Got to the sock filter and I can't get it off the original module without risking breaking the module...now Im losing days and I need my van by Monday I can't afford to screw around. Called a buddy who works at a dealer to see if I could get a deal on the Ford replacement...down to $280 plus tax, COOL. Got it home and opened the box...The Motorcraft is an Airtex! Uncool. Anyway, I'm installing the Airtex and will rebuild the original over time and keep it on standby. Thanks for listening to my long rant.

I assume for some other model...There's a note with the replacement that says to leave the third line capped in vehicles that don't require it.

Airtex makes quality parts, and they made the original pump for Ford. The design has changed, but its actually for the better.

I hope so...Just would hate to have paid local dealer retail, over $400 after tax, when the part is available at parts stores as low as $238. That's the main reason I posted. I do like the spring hold down feature that holds the tank to the bottom...and maybe they needed the convoluted tubing to move with the tank as it breathes during temp changes etc. rather than some smoothbore 30R10 or other solution. Or maybe it's to fit multiple models with different size tanks. Engineers or Bean counters? I don't know.
