Coolant Disposal

I need to change the coolant in my F250 and wondered what everyone does for disposal.

Thanks
Greg

Greg, most municipalities have a coolant or (anti-freeze) reclamation site...your tax payers dollars pay for it. Just google it for your area or call your local city/county govnt office.

If that doesn't pan out, check with a local service garage. I think they have to take used coolant like they do used oil.

I flush mine down the drain. Waste Water Treatment Plants are designed to easily process this type of organic waste. Some states may prohibit this, but it will cause no harm to do so.

Thanks for the input. My local utility will not accept used coolant and I have a septic tank so flushing down the drain is also not an option.

Places that do radiators might take it. I can't say for sure just a thought.
Good luck.

For those that recycle there old coolant, what type of containers do you put all the coolant in? Where is a good place to get cheap buckets with lids for the coolant diposal?

Might want to check your local eateries. DQ, Burger Kings and so on. They buy a lot of products by the buckets.

I though that as well, I just drained into a five gallon bucket and dumped it on the side of my house.

I just put my coolant in a bucket and set in out in the driveway. The local cats love the stuff.

pool supply places have lots of excess 5 gal buckets that the chlorine tabs come in. they have spin-on lids that seal better.

take the coolant to any quickie lube type place. I took 6 loads to 3 diff places and no one had a prob accepting it.

LOL, except the Motorcraft Gold has a bittering agent added from the factory. It was stated that it is enviroment and pet friendly.
