Just what I needed is another project, but with almost no rust and a factory 4x4 I just could'nt say no. 1959 and the truck is in great shape only a couple of small rust spots to fix and fill the bed back in where some one added lights. No motor or trans with it but has transfer case and driveshafts so I think this will be a good place for a 428 and a 4 speed.
Last summer, gas was $4.35 a gallon and with our present no drilling leadership it will be again. I am thinking a high compression 302 or 351 or a fuel injected LS3 5.2 Chevy with 3.54 gears so you could afford to use it. There's no 428 that would ever fit my budget....... Nice truck.

PS My 4 x 4 4.8L Silverado 1500 gets 20MPG on my trips. That convinced me that my old engines are not for daily drivers.
It looks good and I understand how hard it is to pass up a good deal when you find it. I have far more projects then I need but what the heck you only live once! My buddy just bought a 59 panel truck with a Volare front suspension and it's set up for a SBC or BBC with an automagic trans. The body on this panel is absolutely perfect and no rust out anywhere and he paid less than a grand for it.

Amen brother. You don't build a 59 4x4 for miles per gallon, you build it for smiles per gallon and a 428 would be off the charts! If you drove it every day your face might freeze that way.
IMHO 428 in a 4x4 is way overkill unless you are going to be pulling down trees and/or mud bogging. If you go that route I'd start stocking up on extra transfer cases and front diffs/axles.
Nice find tho.

who knows... some day he might decide he wants to take a nice drive threw the forest... maybe get in a tight spot, between 2 trees... and will have to pull that sucker out...
(understand that by threw... i mean, take a sudden turn off a dirt road and into the trees...)
I thinking a 59 4x4 with a 428 would be great, I would do a 429 SCJ but I think a 428 would just look better in there and sound even better. As far as gas milage I dont really care like its been said its miles per smiles . and if you have seen any of my other cars you would know with me there is no Substitute for cubic inches except maybe a big blower sittin on top of them . As far as broken axels I may just up grade axels to Dana 60's and do front and rear disc brakes anyway. Just add a 205 transfer case a set of 33" tires some 4:11 gears and were good to go.
The truck was white from the factory, I dont think I will go white. What do you guys think? A two tone stock paint job or what? Give me some ideas. I am working on my Freightliner toter home now and when its done this one will be next. I already have parts ordered for the truck and on the way, best part I dont need any patch panels
two tone paint job all the way on these truck they look so much better. and i dont know about you but for me 390s are a heck of a lot easier to find than 428 and are still plenty of power for just about anything but hey if ya got one go for it.
