My '01 7.3L Excursion keeps throwing a low ICP code. Initially I assumed the sensor was bad, and I replaced it, but the code keeps coming back. The truck is sluggish, and there is often a 2-3 second delay when accelerating (this is getting dangerous at intersections). If my injector control pressure is indeed low, what could be causing this?
The truck has a full Banks Powerpack with a 100hp chip. The condition is actually worse when I remove the chip.
If you have replaced your ICP sensor, I would start looking at the IPR itself. The valve sounds like its sticking and might needed cleaned or replaced with a new one.
I would proabably get it on the scanner and check with that.
Scan it and see whats going on. Could be IPR, could be injector issues, could be turbo issues making it feel sluggish, which then causes you to use more throttle and can set a ICP code sometimes.
Get it scanned or data logging for ICP pressures, and duty cycle...
The code is: "P1280 Mod$10. Injector Control Pressure Out Of Range Low". I can clear the code, it's OK for a while, and eventually the sluggish acceleration and code re-appear.
Your running a chip, that code comes up sometimes or the p1211... It would be more helpful if you had a way to watch the data as your driving...
IPR is the Injector Pressure Regulator, its on the right side of the HPOP (high pressure oil pump) at the bottom, look between the fuel filter and the alt and you can see it down there.
As Joe said, you can't trust the code to tell you the pressure is low because chips tend to throw ICP codes. Is the ICP too low for normal, or is it just too low for the tune?
Monitoring live data to watch your ICP psi & IPR duty % will tell you if you really have a low pressure problem.
In the mean time, make sure your engine oil is full and not past due for a change. Also inspect the wiring going to the ICP sensor to make sure it's not chaffed somewhere.
