Need help to get a tuner

Hey guys. I need some help. I have an 05 F250 with a 6.0L Its mostly stock with the exception of the stacks I just ordered. Anyways, Im looking for a tuner that I can shift settings on the fly. I would like the obvious economy and tow settings as well as performance. I would also like to have a smoke setting or something that will allow me to roll some coal. I know not all of you like that but well hey its my truck. If anyone can help i would greatly appreciated it. Thanks

Would you like a new transmission to go with that? Or how about a headgasket R&R?

Shift on the fly is a novelty that isn't worth the big chances of ruining your tranny. Also overfueling as much as you would have to do with a smoke tune, it can cause issues with stock emission parts as well especially if you go with an off the shelf tuner in order to get shift on the fly. Besides that you can roll more smoke with a custom tune then you can with a tuner that has shift on the fly.

But hey, like you said, it's your truck.

Shift on the fly is bad. And specifically bad on your tranny. Get a sct and get a good performance tune.... Keep you foot out for milage and your foot in for performance. Find one of the several threads about smoke switches and your set. If you are like me and most I would think you will know when you are pulling and if your tune isn't rated for the weight then back up to the trailer plug the tuner in select your tow tune and hook up the trailer. By the time you hook up the hitch plug in the lights unblock axles put the safety chains on your tunes will be loaded. Do the same when unloading.... Works for me..

Another idea, you can have Eric at Innovative write you a transmission file to use with an Edge module. The SCT will have no engine tuning only transmission. You will have shift on the fly with transmission files.

Down side, expensive to buy Custom SCT files and an Edge module, the Edge will not produce the power over SCT. If you want extreme tuning, you will need head studs.

Rolling coal in a 6.0L is not easy to do.

You can't properly tune anything without shutting the vehicle down, flashing, and then starting it, which makes shift on the fly not a very safe thing to do for the longevity of the vehicle's components. Depending on the driver, that might not happen for the time they own the truck, or it might happen a matter of months down the line. However, I'm willing to bet that it will happen before it would happen just from normal wear and tear.

I agree Tex, inline devices are not the best solution but an option if you don't want a flash tuner.

good info! OK so maybe my best bet would be to with a flash tuner. What would you recommend? ive only really looked at the sct x3. I was thinking either sct x3 or the edge juice w additude. Opinions?

An SCT 2 or 3 with tunes from Eric at Innovative or the Spartan guys (if you can reach them) would be your best bet. That and adding ARP head studs before you lift the heads off of the block and blow the head gaskets!

You might also want to consider an EGR cooler delete and a coolant filter.

Edge Juice is not a flash programmer, it is basically an in-line fuel box (just manipulates signals).

x3 with custom tunes from Innovative will be the best thing that you can get now.

totally agree with all the info that everyone has given to ya. but the thing i don't like is when u decide that it wasn't worth the all small mods with the tuner and the whole smoke thing that you'll trade it in and some poor sap is going to get stuck with a truck that has had the little mods done to it. didn't mean to offend ya just trying to take up for the unknowing used truck buyers.

All tho" not very popular on this site, I love my banks 6 gun and have had zero issues with switching between the settings, As for the mods to your truck if you decide to sell it......huh..... As long as you disclose it ..... It's your Truck!

I would highly recomment Eric at Innovative and the SCT X3. Eric has a great service and its a very quick and pain free process. Once you download the initial tune into your truck its only a couple minutes to swap them out if you need to.

When I was first looking into purchasing a tuner i went threw the same thing your thinking and believe me Eric is the way to go.

I got 3 custom tunes:
1. Super Street
2. Tow/Plow
3. Extreme Race

Once you feel the power of the Super Street you wont even want to change it... Its unbelievable. Honestly I have never even tried the Extreme race tune just because the Super Street is so great. I have had it in my truck for 5 months and i have only swapped tunes 2 or 3 times to tow things.

Thank you,

Bob
