Ok guys I have a 04 150 XLT 36000 mile so I have been reading here for bout a month. Had a chatter in the LS rearend so I changed it 2 days ago with royal purple 75/140 chatter is gone works like a charm. So I also had the clunk on take off and stop so I pulled the driveshaft greased the slipyoke and the clunk is gone. Now I have a small vibration at 55 to 65 then goes away any ideas? I have already turned it 180 degrees and no better was fine before the slipyoke grease. I did use valvoline durablend as suggested in a couple threads and the clunk is gone but now vibrates a bit not bad barely noticable
When you say the vibration goes away, do you mean after a few miles at the same speed it'll go away, or do you mean that the vibration goes away if you go faster than 65or slower than 55? Does the vibration go away if you lift your foot off the accelerator and coast? If it goes away while coasting it could be in the drive shaft. If it goes away if you go faster than 65 or slower than 55 it could be a tire balance issue. If it goes away on its own regardless of speed, then I would guess it's the tires that are flattened from sitting. If the latter is the case, the only thing you can do about it is put on different tires.
well it had not done this before the slip joint greasing which I marked the driveshaft to be sure to put it back the same. It does go away before 55 and after 65 well it aint noticable it is barely noticable but I didnt notice it before
try to drive at a certain RPM...check for vibrations
then keep bumping up the RPM in little increments...if it keeps happening at a certain RPM, then that is the driveshaft
if it keeps happening at a certain speed only, then 99% sure it's a tire
but you can check just to be sure. at the point where it starts to vibrate, lock out the Overdrive (stay at same speed)...if tires, it will keep vibrating...if driveshaft, the vibration will disappear
I understand how annoying that crap is. I once chased a vibration down a $300 dollar road. Truck would hop all over the road from 45-50 mph...and drove perfectly otherwise...replaced U-joints, pressed bearings on the driveshaft...swore up and down it wasn't a tire.
after it was all said and done, a $10 balance fixed the issue
well I got it apperently my marks were off just a bit 1 spline on the slip yoke turned it 1 damn spline and the vibration is gone thanks for all the input
