Bypass Oil filter

looking for some help on a bypass oil filter.
I remember a while back that some folks were using the Motor Gaurd M-30 or M-60 as a bypass oil filter.
I found them, they seem to be using them for compressors these days.
Does anyone remember which filter was used for the single roll of TP?
Also, does anyone use one of these that could pass on the parts needed to install?

I run an Oilguard bypass oil filter on mine, not familiar with the motor guard filter. The Oil guard uses a wound cotton filter media(looks like a ball of yarn) and filters down to 1 micron. for me I would not trust using toilet paper or paper towels as filter media. Their are a couple of other companies out there that make units with better filter media, Amsoil, FS2500, Gulfcoast. just my f350cents worth. hope this helps.

Frantz makes the toilet paper filter, its real good quality construction, but I ran some oil sample tests before and after the filter install and did not see an increase in quality of oil or reduction in wear metals or anything like that(beyond what could be explained by draining a quart of oil every thousand miles for the filter change) I personally would go with the FS2500

Do you wish to specifically use the above named filter, or do you want information about bypass filters in general?

While I haven't heard of this specific one, a LOT of us on here will offer opinions about bypass filtration.

while there are many different bypass filtering systems to choose from do your research before you buy. as said above i dont even like the sound of toilet paper filtering my engine stuff and the fs2500 while it looke like a good unit the website shows some cool stuff i think it is grossly overpriced and the filters for it arent that cheap either. amsoil has on but i generally dont swing the amsoil way for anything. that being said i looked at them all (i think) and ended up going with the oilguard. good price with quality filters. check em out....

Thank you all for your help.
To answer springerpops question, I am up for any opinions.
I just remember this one getting really good reviews a couple of years ago, but sounds like the trend has shifted.
Seems like quality is the reason they have gone from oil filtration to compressed air filtration.
I am looking for a good filter at a reasonable price.

Thanks again for all of your help.

There's a very good system that's not commercially hyped, but has been doing the job in OTR trucks for decades. You can't buy a complete "kit", however.

You have to do some work for yourself, but it's very reasonable, cost-wise.

I'm building mine like Pop's. Just haven't rounded up all the parts yet. I've got the hose, filter, and mounting plate, but no base or fittings. Soon, very soon.

Marv,
that is right up my alley, I would much rather fab it up myself.
Thank you for all of your help with this.

At the end of my how-to, there's a short blurb about a conversation I had with the head of Applications Engineering at Baldwin that addresses this.

If you want to use Baldwin or Fleetguard filters, be sure to get a filter base that has 5/8 x 18 threads.

Though I got mine at FleetPride, Associated Diesel has these bases, too:

Hey Pop- What fittings go where in the block and above the OEM filter? Your instructions don't say and they look like they're 2 different sizes. Same with the filter head? I haven't bought the base or fittings yet but will be soon. Would a -2 be 1/8" NTP for the one right about the OEM filter and for the base? -4 is 1/4" JIC for the hose connections? And -6 is 3/8" NPT for the larger inspection/return port?

Thanks!

The ones that go into the block are, indeed, two different sizes. That's why they are different part numbers. They both are straight fittings.

The two that go into the filter base are both the same size (and the same size as the smaller of the two in the block), but one is straight and the other is a 90-degree fitting. As the filter base is mounted, the straight goes in the forward hole, the 90-degree goes into the rear. The 90-degree fitting also is mated with the 90-degree hose-end, to make what is effectively, a 180.

Once you are on my website, click on the blue hyper-linked Aeroquip part numbers to take you to pages with illustrations of the part.

This will all get pretty obvious once you start assembling this "kit".

I finally did the bypass oil filter sample by "Pop." My question is, how often should I change the oil for this type of bypass system, How often do you guys change 5k, 6k miles? Iam using Delo 15/40.

Also, I cross referenced the Baldwin B164 filter to the Napa 1704, but did not use the Napa because it does not filter as well... i.e. microns. So in this case it's not worth using the Napa product.
