Ok.. I just wasted My Np208 today wheeling. I pulled the drain plug and found nothing but atf and metal chunks and shavings i was wondering if i could replace it with a much better np205, or is it worth it to rebuild it?

Is this the factory t-case or have you swapped it in? I am under the impression the the factory t-case for your style of Bronco should be a B-W 1345.

Yep.. its factory and it's an NP 208. i believe they changed to the borg warner in 86 or 87.

you can swap in the 205, but it is not direct bolt-in.
check for driveshaft length change and mount change, and type of output flange or yoke.
I think the np208 is sufficient for 95% of trucks, but is not near as tough as np205.

 

My friends '83 has a B-W 1345 in it and it was bought new by his dad.
