Im scraping out a truck 83 F150 this weekend and It has a NP435/NP208 combo.
Everything looks and appears to be in good shape from what I can see. I know the 435s were good the only thing I know about 208s is that they are chain driven
I already have like 3 NP435s and 2 NP205s laying around im just wondering if its worth the time taking out adding to my pile of growing spare parts. Or should I just send it to the crusher.
IF you don't see yourself using the NP435s you already have, why add another.
The NP208 is nothing special... trucks with 35s would give them hell. They do have about a 2.5 or so Low range, but it's a aluminum case.
Can't think of anything I'd actally want to use one for...other than selling it.
208's are pretty chitty, chain driven, weak cast aluminum case, slip yoke rear (no SYE available),........ive got 2 in my garage for sale........id sell both for $50 if anyone needs one .......or two
Ive got 2- 208s also that Ill never use and cant seem to give away also.
Id keep and sell the 435 because its one of the best 4spd trannys ever built for abusive trucks. With that being said you dont break them often if ever so having a bunch of spares laying around is unnecessary.
It has the fixed yoke, and the NP208 identification tag still attatched to the rear side of the case.
I know the origional 83 motor was swapped out for a 78 or 79 300 I 6. It appears to be the origional transfercase.
are you sure the 8 isn't a 5, b/c there is no such thing as a FORD 208 with a fixed yoke.....they are all slip, now cheby's i beleive had a fixed version.....well at least there are SYE's availible i think
im now 99% sure ford never did it...............i have heard of people drill and tapping the end of the output shaft and putting a yoke on it, but i never thought it was a great idea
