I have 94 F250 with EOD4 tranny. My issue is that it shifts very hard from 1-2 and shifts smoothly 2-3 and 4th to OD. Now checked to see if any codes have been "thrown". None. Checked the fluid, it smells slightly "burnit". The truck has over 258K on it. I know its due for fluid change. I need some direction for the hard shifting from 1-2. Any advice would be appreachated.
If it has 258K original miles, you are overdue for a rebuild.
Burnt smelling fluid may mean it overheated a bit due to slippage and debris is floating around in the fluid which can make it shift hard every once in awhile.
Also, clutches slipping will tell the computer to boost pressure which will make harsh shifts.
The 94 E4OD had some weak areas. Mostly the torque converter which would cause overheating etc.
A fluid change might fix the problem, but like I said, if those are original miles, it may be time to bite the bullet.
In the early stages this problem won't throw a code or make the OD light flash. As time goes on it will get worse.
