A/C Question

My 95 F150 A/C blows so cold that I can hardly stand to leave it on while driving but when I come to a stop sign or light it blows warmer air and when I take off again the arctic norther is back. My first thought is that my idle speed is to low, but it seems to be fine......any help on this?

How is your clutch fan? Is it moving air as it should? Sounds like you are not getting enough air across the condenser to remove the heat when you are stopped... since it seems to work as it should when moving..

I purchased this truck back in Feb. and the seller said he just replaced it. I looked at it then and could tell it was new. I know it could still be bad even if it is new but how can I test it?

Thanks!

Or you could put a big shop fan in front of the grille while the truck idles and see if that brings the temp back down.

or, just disconnect the air pump and redirect it to blow in front of the radiator to help cool the condenser when idling.

Yes, if the system works fine while driving then its an issue with airflow over the condenser. I know that the aftermarket fan clutches are hit and miss, and most suggest you go to the dealer with it. But i have an OReilly and it works fine.

To test it put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator and once the truck starts getting ho the clutch will engage and get louder and spin faster. But watch engine temps. If it does neither then the clutch is no good.

And another thing is that no a/c will work as well sitting idle as it does when you on the highway. the output temp of the a/c will raise alot when you come to a stop and while a good clutch will reduce it, it wont eliminate it.

I hope this helps,
Good Luck

I hope you are trying to be funny because that is not going to work.

I put a 1000 cfm pusher fan on the front driver's side of the condenser. It overs one half of the radiator/condensor. It is switched on/off via a relay hooked to the A/C clutch.

The output temperature (passanger side register) varies between 36*-46* at idle with the engine fan not turning!

The fan cost about $80-$90, the relay $5, and the relay harness $2.

A supplemental cooling fan will drop the AC temp 15*-20*.

Try flushing the radiator and condenser with detergent and water from the middle outward (Loosen the radiator and flush between the 2 parts). A lot of debris gets trapped in there and will first show itself at idle with the AC on.

If it's all clean, the fan clutch is weak. Loss of AC cooling at idle is the very symptom caused by many aftermarket fan clutches. They don't seem to move quite enough air at idle.
