I know this topic has been beat to death but are there any negative impacts in disconnecting the egr valve (meaning simply pulling the wire connector) and leaving the valve in place???? This will leave the valve closed at all times...correct? How many of you have done this...and does it affect the egr cooler in any way...
You're going to get several different answers on this one. For me, on my 2005, simply unplugging the EGR valve puts the engine in a degraded mode. I can only get about 18 psi of boost whereas I get about 30 psi when it is plugged in. I do not throw any codes, I simply lose power and it decreases my gas mileage.
I bought the EGR plug off of eBay which is a solid machined piece of metal that gets inserted into the hole for the EGR valve. I then left the EGR valve on top of the engine, plugged in, and I still went into degraded mode. I read somewhere on this site that the computer is getting input from before and downstream of the EGR and comparing values. I am not sure how this works.
For me, it was easier to put everything back to stock and simply run it as-is. I do not pull regularly and when I do it is only about 5,000 pounds. I don't have a tuner. I am up-to-date on all my maintenance.
You have an '07, so you will get an emissions warning light, and I think it will run in limp mode. I'm not sure about the limp mode, I could not tell any difference in my '06 as far as power.
