Motor oil

I know this has been a topic before, but was unable to find the tread?

What type of motor oil?

My truck is a 2000 F250 CC SS 7.3 with 88,000 miles. I currently use Delco 15w40 because that is what the original owner used.

I know rotella is popular, but I know synthetic sometimes fines its way out through gaskets. So, I was wondering if I were to switch now, I'm I going to have oil seeping from the gaskets? Are you guys seeing that at all?

What about Amsoil?

Should I keep running Delco? The original owner said that's all he ever used.

thanks for the info that I know you you will be sharing with me

If you want to switch to synthetic, just do it. I just put synthetic in my truck 1500 miles ago for the first time ever since I got it on sale for the same price as regular oil.

Delo, Rotella, Delvac, Valvoline all make a good 15w-40 oil, and I've used all of them in my truck. I've got Rotella 5w-40 in it right now. If I didn't have any problems making the switch at 290,000 miles, you won't have any issues at your low miles.

The synthetic does make the engine more quite. Let us know what you think about it if you decide to try it.

Speaking of....... Got some time tomorrow, Chris? I have a meeting with Verizon at 2 and that's it. Maybe before or after????

Oh, and I use Syn Rotella as well. Switched at 65k and have never looked back (I have ~94k on it now). Tried going back to dino in a pinch and dumped it early. I've always preferred syns though...

Probably so. I'll give you a call once I figure out where I'll be when. I've got a meeting in the morning, then who knows.

I have over 15k running Amsoil, the truck had over 70k when I got it. Ran some Delo in it before but it idled funny cold and I read that it has a lot to do with the oil. Since the change it starts real good and it comes up to temp a lot nicer. No odd romps or shaking like before.

I didn't want to say anything, but Delo was the oil I tried after running the syn Rotella. My truck really didn't like it. Had all the same symptoms you described. Back to syn Rotella and all good!!

Lol yeah, I don't know what was in it before but it always started rough, I put in fresh Delo expecting it to be better and it was almost the same. With the Amsoil it is a little rough but it goes away quickly. I do know the previous owner did not seem to like my truck. I'm still working on issues but its so much better.
