i'm trying to install a flatbed on my 93 ford f-250. the guy i bought the bed from said it was off a 94 f-250. this thing isn't even off a ford. there are cross members that would crush both fuel tanks.
my plan is to cut the runners off the flatbed. (the two pieces of 4 inch channel iron that go from the front to back of the bed. they line up with the frame). i'll set those on the frame of the truck and level them out then set the bed on the runners and weld everything back together.
my question is how do i level the runners?? the frame isn't flat by any means. the truck isn't level even when it's sitting level. the back of the cab isn't 90 degrees to the frame.

has anyone ever heard of using wood blocks or pressure treated 4x4's to mount a flatbed?? this thing has a trailer hitch on it so it seems dangerous to use wood between the frame and bed.
One trick I thought of recently for leveling a custom bed on the truck is to take a rotating laser level and line it up with the body lines on the cab, then you have a reference point to "level" the flat-bed to. First you should make sure your body mounts aren't sagging too much or you'll be lining the bed up to a cab that isn't straight on the frame.
