82 f-100 fan shroud
82 f-100 fan shroud
my shroud on my truck is broke but no one seems to make a fan shroud for a 1982 model.does anyone know if there is a difference in an 82 shroud and an 83-86 shroud?the shroud i need is for a 300 6cyl.
thanks
thanks
If i were you, id be just checking out the local junkyards. They are very simple to take off so it wouldnt take you long to pluck one off.
It shouldnt hurt anything to not have one on it right now. Just be careful.

only problem with not having a fan shroud is over heating and possibly chopping your fingers off when working on the engine....i lost a whole hand to it....jk...but i don't have one on my 85 f-150 and last summer it just ran hot alot cuz the radiator wasn't being kept cool....i ordered one off autopartswarehouse.com.....give them a shot
There are two types of shrouds.
One is for saddle mounted radiators and the other is for wing type radiators.
If your radiator is saddle mount (rubber cushions between radiator and core support and two metal clamps on top) then you need to replace it from a truck with the same setup.
Wing mounted radiators have two "wings" on the sides of the tanks that fit into channels on the radiator support and there are two 10mm bolts that hold it on the top. If you have that style, you need to find a donor truck with the same setup.

There's actually three different applicable ones for the 300-I6, according to the parts book.
Does your truck have a/c and or super cooling? In otherwords, does it have the wide, or narrow radiator?
A fan shroud from a 1980-1982 F-series trucks, and bronco, with the 300-I6 and A/C and/or Super Cooling should work for you. (Saddle Mount Radiator).
Can Be Marked on part with numbers:
EOTA-8146-AA
E2TA-8146-RA
1983-1986 use a different part to the 1980-1982. However, do not know if these are interchangeable for earlier 1980-1982 models.
Part Number
E3TZ-8146-E
The regular radiator, without a/c, are equipped with a smaller narrow radiator, and are equipped with a fan guard only that just protects the top. Also (Saddle Mount Radiator).
Marked:
E4TA-8A611-BA
Hope this helps.

My 1991 version of the '80/89 catalog only lists that one shroud for all 1980/84 F100/350's & Bronco's with 300 I-6's, regardless of what type of cooling they had.
btw: Since Ford replaces 10's of 1000's of part numbers every year, one should never go by a part numbers prefix to ID what the part actually fits.
I see examples of that jazz here on FTE all the time.
Yeah, and I think some websites do the same thing. BOTP is one that has gross application errors. Great parts, just can't find them by application there.
I'm not sure about the fan guard being metal though. I remember them to be plastic, and has the Warning marks "CAUTION FAN - (and/or) Cooling System Not Equipped For A.C."
I'm also wondering how a fan shroud fits both size radiators when one is aproximately six inches smaller, than the other?
And thanks Bill for your time. I don't think you get thanked enough.

On my 1990 e150 non a/c that I pulled the motor and trans or my 1985 F150 with a/c used the same fan shroud and the rads were diff van had a non overflow and truck has a over flow but bot shrouds have the same part numbers
just my 2 bits on it
just my 2 bits on it
I'm going to the wrecker today. I'll see if I can find the guard i'm talking about.
I measured the shroud on my engine, it's marked "EOTA-8146-AA" by the way, and it would stick 5.5 inches off the left side of the smaller radiator, and interfere with the smaller radiators tank on the left side, and basicly not fit.
Something is definately weird with this, I must admit.
