I had a problem this weekend with the engine light coming on. I just installed a Banks Cold Air Intake about 1500 miles ago and have not had any issues until now. Today I had the engine light come on and the manual says its related to the DPF. I was trying to find the post but i remember seeing someone else had the same issue and removed the Banks intake then back to stock which then turned the engine light off. Anyone know what this is?
When I talked to Banks support the other night, they did not have an answer for me. So, the more of us with banks that call, maybe they will take notice....
So what does Banks tell you to do? Take it off? Keep driving? Im guessing they have to tell you something other than "I dunno" while shrugging their shoulders.
Ok, I will call tomorrow. Not sure its related to the intake but sure seems weird to me. I also have the black tail pipes and see a very small amount of black smoke when i hammer down on her. This was the case before the Banks was installed so i'm assuming i have a cracked DPF.
Yep, banks didn't really have an answer for me. They did ask if I had the latest programming, to which I do as the "cleaning exhaust filter" message does come across the message center. The tech seemed baffled, so I told him I would monitor it for the next week or so and call them back. They did document my call to start a history, so I guess that is a good thing. Now here is the weird part. Towing the camper on Friday 2-hours to the campground, it did throw a code, but not engine light. Got in the truck Saturday morning to go to town and the P2002 was gone according to the reader. I get no smoke at all when I put the hammer down. I also had the chance to check another FORD's stock tailpipes while walking through a parking lot and guess what, they had a small build up as well. Go figure...
Remember too that the DPF isn't 100% efficient. Some DPFs seem to be better than others. Seems to me that most guys that really had confirmed cracked DPFs were having problems with performance, and/or MPGs. I was getting the black tips before I went with my MBRP exhaust. AFE CIA made no diff. either. Been running the Spartan 150hp DPF-on tune for almost a year now. Yes I still have the black tips, but really no worse than when the truck was completely stock. Lots of owners with aftermarket CIAs are getting that P2002. Just some seem to be better than others, and some are luckier than others. Don't sweat the black tips, unless the code is causing issues just enjoy your truck/investment.
I put the below in the S&B vs AFE Stage II thread as well.
One thing I forgot to mention is that when it rains or is very humid I experience a severe hesitation when flooring it after I've been driving for a bit. I was hoping the Banks CIA would solve this but it has not. I've heard others expereince this as well so not sure if the engine light is related to this or not.

I just got off the phone with Banks and they mentioned that they are looking into this and doing more testing. He said they were starting to get calls on this and were looking for a fix. Does anyone know if the severe hesitation could be related to the CAI? My truck has done this before but not as bad as it is now. It only does it when its really humid out and rainy.
Mine did it stock. Still does it, but less often. I've got the AFE CIA, so it ain't the Ram air's fault. They're either very sensitive to moisture, or they're really sucking in alot of moisture. Maybe the way the air intake ducting from the grille is pushing/drawing the moisture to the CIA that is the problem.
