I suspect that third connector you're talking about is for an optional clock; the clock itself is
mounted above the radio, and there's a short, pigtail-like cable that connects it to the
connector down by the HVAC controls (I believe on the RH side).
There should also be a connector down there for an optional key-in-ignition buzzer.
BTW I think you said red/yellow, I said that was for engine solenoids and a few other
things... I may have been wrong there, I was thinking red/yellow-hash, not yellow stripe. I
have no idea what a red/yellow stripe would be for, BUT 1980 trucks are a one-year
wonder, with some of the electrical system different than the 81-86 variants, most
prominently the locations of the LR directional signals, hi-beams, seat belt & Emissions
lamps.. (Mine is a 1981.)
If all these connectors you're talking about are in the general area of the radio & HVAC
controls, I'll bet that's what you're looking at. Even though the options weren't installed,
the wiring was there for 'em.
Note, the wiring changed in, um, I think 1982 or 83, when Ford integrated the headlight-
on buzzer and seatbelt buzzers into one unit, and incorporated a key-in-ignition buzzer.
If 81-F-150-Explorer stops by, he can answer more authoritatively than I can as he has
all the Ford manuals for several different years of these things (I only have for 1981).
EDIT: Nevermind the yellow-stripe-or-hash stuff, it seems you DID specify yellow hash
(I couldn't refer to your post while I was writing my reply).
In any event, the stuff about the one-year-wonder is still true, though, and I therefore
suspect that the red/green colors were used for something else in 1980 than they were
used for in the later models.

I just recently got a new interior for the truck(Dash and whatnot)out of a 1982 F250, which included the clock. The clock harness plugs into a connector behind the HVAC.I've already got that plugged in.These connectors i'm unsure of are closer to the instrument panel.

That was in the truck from factory.

The new interior came with the headlamp on buzzer, and I plugged it into my harness,so that's taken care of too.

He's helped me many times.I'd PM him,but I don't have enough posts to PM.

I've ran into this problem more than once.It gets annoying real quick. But,alot of times, you can work around it.Trucks built before 7/80 had green printed circuits, and trucks after 7/80 had red.Well,my original printed circuit went bad,and I couldn't find a truck before 7/80,so I put one in from an 81.The only difference was the turn signal indicator and the brake indicator.A simple switch of the indicator film on the bezel fixed that in 5 seconds. Not one problem since.
These 2 connectors are strange.81 Exploer told me once before that the radio harness was different for the 80-81 than the 82-86,or something along those lines.I get the feeling the same goes for the plug ins.I know for sure it'll be different from 85-86 when they switched to the electronic radios. Thanks for the help man.

That's OK, I PM'd him already. Was gonna ask you to set up your prefs to
allow people (me) to PM ya but I saw how many posts you have and figured
you're not able to yet.
But, you could add your city/state/country so we all can see where you're from.
BTW, the Ford factory wiring diagrams ROCK! (Well, mostly,) You might pick
one up, they'll help you a LOT.

Thanks.I used to be up on here with my old account(fordtruckman80),but I had deleted my email account that I used to get on here, and when I forgot my password,I was in trouble. So I created this new account.
Will do on the city/state.Haven't really played around with the CP yet.
I'll look into the wiring diagarms.Appreciate the link.

I'd think Scott should be able to help ya with that, I'll PM him with a link to your
post.
I seem to remember you from around a year ago, you and a whole bunch of others
I remember from the Mug Shots thread but who don't seem to show up anymore.

I added a pic of the ol F100,maybe that'll help. But yea,I've been real busy with school and work,so I don't have much time for the computer.I've been off on a bunch of holidays lately,so I have a little extra time to spend workin on the truck and surfin the net.

I've spent the last 10 or so minutes looking at the Hayne's manual, but my wire colors don't seem to match up.I have the 1980-1991 Ford Pickup manual, that Franklin2 mentioned earlier.I have three connectors behind the dash that have nothing plugged in.Can anybody tell me what these wires are for?
1st connector is female rubber connector.
--Wire 1 is Yellow/Black(which I presume is switched DC power)
--Wire 2 is Lt Blue/Red(Dimmable back light IIRC)
The First Connector is for the Radio Power Supply. 1980-1981 only. It went to a plastic grey connector in 1982-1986 etc...
2nd connector is a gray 3 slot plastic connector.
--Wires 1 and 2 are Red/Yellow Hash, and they both lead into the same slot.
--Wire 3 is Red/Green
--Wire 4 looks to be all Black(Ground?)
Throttle Actuator.
1 and 2: Red/Yellow Hash. Power Distribution Fuse Panel. (F2) Emissions, Brake warning and seat belts warning.
3: Red/Lt. Green: Ignition Switch: Throttle Actuator Hot in start.
4: Black is ground.
3rd connector is a dark brownish color.
--1st wire is Brown/Black dot
--2nd wire is White/Red stripe
I cant find refference to this plug. Can you take a pic of it by any chance? Thanks.

Okay,so what exactly does the throttle actuator do?And as for the Brake Warning and Seat Belts, why is this connector unplugged, when both my brake warning and seat belt warnings work?

Yep,here ya go.If you look under the point where my palm meets my pinky, you can see the second connector I mentioned. The third connector is in my hand.

The Red/Yellow hash wire powers all three and more. Throttle Actuator, Brake Warning, Seat Belt Warning. But these components tie into the Red/Yellow hash wire in different places. Why there are two of them going to the connector. One Red/Yellow wire is going to the connector, the other is leaving it going to power yet another component.
The Throttle actuator, actuates the throttle from idle and makes the truck idle faster, or idle slower. Not all trucks use it. Sort of like an electric dashpot. Mostly seen on California and High altitude models.

The Color of the wires going into that connector look White/Purple to me.
White/Purple stripe: Powers 4x4 indicator lamp, If equipped/ Speed Control amplifier/ and the protection and convenience connector, used for dealer accessories. IE: Anti Theft Alarms, MCU computer Controls, etc... and of course the Clock.

Well,My truck was ordered in LA and built in San Jose,so it's the Cali Emissions truck. Is it possible that the previous owner unplugged something?

The wires are pretty dirty,so it's hard to tell. Also gotta account for fading. But that's probably what it is.
The rest of that I don't have,so I guess i'll tape that connector up and tie it up outta sight.
Oh,and to keep this thread a little more on track,I have a question about the radio memory source for when I go to add a Radio.I know the lt green/yellow wire runs to the clock, and other accessories that might require memory if any.I plan on having a clock in the truck,so I can't really use that wire to power the memory for the Radio.Or can I?If not, what else is there to use?I really appreciate all the help man!
