trans modulator

I just installed a new modulator in the cruise-o-matic trans on my 67 truck. It is still shifting hard. Is there an adjustment on the modulator? You have to let off the gas and get back on it to get the tranny to shift. Maybe there is another problem? You'r guys' help will be appreciated.

The C-O-M is not a soft shifting tranny like the C6. Without driving the truck I don't know exactly what you call hard shifting, but I recall a few years back when I had one it was a bit sharper than the C6 in my other truck.

Most modulators can be adjusted with a small allen wrench thru the vacuum connection. Kick down linkage adjustment can also cause the symptoms you described.

Did you nstall the correct modulator valve?

The valve used with MX C-O-M = C1AZ7A377B (Motorcraft TM1) is not the same as the one used with a C4/C6 (C4AZ7A377B-Motorcraft TM2).

Did you remember to install the 2.867" x 1/8" diameter shift rod (C2AZ7A380A) that fits inside the modulator?

The trans will not shift properly without it.

I found the modulator replacement for the C-O-M that you suggested, Number. As for the hard shifting, it seems to have a hard time deciding to shift from first to second if I get on it. Then it can't decide which gear would be better at 30 mph. I have to get this truck running well. I love to drive it and you won't believe how many turning heads I get when I am on the road.

I can believe it.

Why?

Because I've had the same 1965 F100 since I bought it new in March 1965!

It didn't garner much attention till it passed 30 years old.
