I have a 1969 F-100. It has a bumper with a 2" ball for a trailer. I would like to put on a real trailer hitch bolted to the frame. Did the frame have any changes over the next several years? I was looking at a hitch that would fit a 1973 and up to 1979 F-150. I asked if it would work on a 1969 F-100 and the guy said, maybe........good answer.
The 73-79 frame is about an inch wider, so it may or may not work depending on how it mounts.
On my F250, I took an old 2" receiver center frame, cut it down to fit between the frame rails, and welded on 3.5"x9" plates that slid into the frame. I put these in place with eight grade 8 1/2" bolts, and cut a hole in the plate area of the bumper to pass the hitch through. When not towing, I just pull the hitch out, put the plate back there, and it looks all stock.
