I haven't paid the online version much mind, since I have a couple copies of the print version (I keep one in the truck for quick reference while I'm working and another next to the computer) is it the same as the print version with all the exploded views and extra information? It used to be just a listing of parts with a single picture or drawing of that part when you clicked for more details. I find the assembly drawings in the print version a very good reference as to how the part is used or what might be missing.
So here is my first attempt at posting a photo:[IMG][/IMG]
2losteve,
First that is an absolutely stunning engine compartment. Thank you for taking the time to post those pics! Absolutely helpful for my quest. I am waiting for a MidFifty catalog so I can pick up a firewall. I have a 56 firewall cut out from a donor car but it has some rust. I figure why weld in something that has rust on it if I am in this deep anyway. After the firewall is sorted out you mind if I hit you up for some measurements?

I would be honored to help in any way that I can. Thanx for the nice words too. Oh, I have a lift in my garage which the '56 is usually on so I can also take photos of the underside if they would be helpful.
Thank you so much! I have a bunch of questions for you. Sorry!
1. What kind of radiator are you running?
2. How high above the crossmember is the oil pan?
3. How much clearance between the powersteering pump and powersteering bracket to the Camaro steering box?
4. Any front to rear measurement you can give me regarding the relationship between the motor and crossmember?
5. Are you running a stock 5.0 fan?
6. Can you post more pics? Especially some of your motormount, oil pan clearance, steering box clearance.
For starters, I'm running a rebuilt but stock style F-100 radiator.
I took a couple photos of the underside - this is looking up from the drivers side & behind the Camaro x-member where the rear sump of my oil pan sets. I couldn't even get my finger in between them.
Where my finger is is the front edge of the sump - the pan rises from there and is well above the x-member.

Jeremy, before we go too much further with measurements I think we should compare our Camaro install stats. Why I am saying this is because when I installed mine, I moved my front axle centerline forward approx. 1 1/2 inches to position the front wheel more centered in the opening. I just looked under my chassis for a good reference point that we could both use and there aren't many good ones o/a all my original crossmembers are gone. What I found was a couple of holes (3/8 maybe?) on the bottom of the main frame rails and directly below the front cab mounts. I measured from the front of the rearmost of those holes to the large bolthead that goes through the center of the rear A-arm bushing and it was right at 10 inches. Let me know if you can do the same. I couldn't take a photo of it right now as my wife took our camera to my granddaughters B-day party.
I am using a stock type fan with clutch off a 5.0 inside a plastic shroud. In 7 years of use I have never had an overheating issue.
My Ford pwr strg pump sets about 1/2" above that 'adjusting stud/nut' looking thing on the top of the Camaro strg. box.
Steve,
You know, I was just thinking about this very thing the other night. I remember reading that alot of F100 owners move the front axle center line forward 1 1/2-2" to better center the front wheels in the fender openings. That could be part of the problem with why the PO set up the motor position so funky - If he kept the stock wheelbase. I'll try and check the same measurements on my truck Tuesday - which is the earliest I can get to the truck. Its hung up in my Moms garage and I work 24hrs tomorrow (monday).
Thank you for posting that pic. I can't thank you enough for all that you are doing to help me out.
While you're looking at your frame check the relation of the top of the Camaro clip - where the top A-arms are - to the Ford frame. Why I say this is that when I set mine up I knew that I wanted it low, so my clip is HIGHER in that area. If I'm not communicating this well, another way of saying it is; if my frame was visible without the body on it and you were looking at it from the side, the area where the clip is attached rises above the level of the stock frame. I couldn't tell by looking at your photo at the beginning of this thread how yours is.
Will do. I think my subframe is set up inline with the F100 frame. I'll double check tough. I'll try and grab some pics while I'm getting the measurements.

Steve, I think I got the measurement you are referring to. Its pretty close to 10" the pic just distorts it a bit.
Yes indeed - so it would appear that ours are set in about the same place. This will be very helpful in other comparisons. Also, yours looks like it's very similar to mine in the height as it appears to kick up a little from the bottom of the Ford frame.
I am leaving tomorrow morning & will be gone 2 or 3 days. I'll respond again when I return.
I went back to those photos that I posted the other day and in the 3rd one, looking down at the 2nd spark plug, the center of my engine mount is right below it. They are basic biscuit type mounts but if you can use that as a beginnning reference point.......What type of mounts were used on the initial install?
By the way Jeremy, where are you located (Hi?!)? Was wondering what you were doing up as late as I - are you on the left coast?
I can do measurements when I get back. I also have a zillion build photos but they are all from a 'film' camera as they were taken in the '90's before I acquired a digital.
Hey Steve, that does look like a good start! I didn't notice the round part of the motor mount when I first looked at the pics. But, I can see it now. If you could give me a measurement as to where abouts that is in relationship with the Camaro subframe that would be an awesome start! The original setup was done with some funky homemade motor mounts. They used the stock style rubber motor mounts with the funky mounts they welded to the frame. If you look at my first posted pic on page1 of the thread you can see where I removed them from the subframe. 1/2 of the mount was welded to the frame and the other half was hanging off the rear of the crossmember. Thats how far the engine was setback compered to the location your motor is in. Not to mention that the passenger side motor mount broke and the oil pan was literally sitting on the crossmember. By the way I am in Hawaii. It's 0837pm as I post this. I also noticed you are usually on the same time as I am. Thanks again for all your help and patience!!!
