Winter Wheels

I am thinking about getting a set of steel rims and more aggressive tires for the winter. I would like to put 17 inch rims on my 4X4 Lariat due to the fact the are abundant and tires are cheaper. So my question is will 17 inch rims definitely fit on 09 4X4 with factory 18 inch rims. I know rotor clearance has been an issue for some vehicles thats why I want to be sure before buying anything. Thanks for any help on this issue.

17's will clear just fine, that's what some of the other models use. I'm fairly sure that you just can't go any smaller than that, 16's won't clear the brake calipers on the 04-09 trucks.

So why just get plain steel wheels? Buy some 17 inch from a STX or XLT model. They would look nice plus the factory wheels are clear coated and can survive the winter salt just fine.

Don't forget about the tire pressure sensors too. They screw onto the valve stem. You can find new takeoff sensors on ebay. Also check ebay for like new takeoff rims too.

Good ideas, I forgot about the sensors and I will probably look into some take offs.

Thanks

I have a set of OEM new/ unused 18" wheels and tires from my '04 Lariat you can have for a burger and a beer. Oops, no dealing on the forums.

Fleabay is a good source for take offs. Just lower your expectations regarding the condition they'll arrive in. Most have skuffs and scratches well beyond the "minimal marking" or "marks from dismounting" that most sellers state. I know this from the 2 sets of Lariat wheels I picked up. One set were never mounted and they had a ton of box burn marks. The other, factory chrome (not clad) wasn't skuffed but they were dinged.
