New V-10'er
So far, I am really liking this new bed extender. I have had a bed extender in two of my previous trucks--both being your typical tube-style extender. My experiences there have leaned towards the negative side of mixed blessings. It just seemed like the damned things were eternally in the road...or "missing."
For example:
On a trip to Oak Express, I ended up pulling the bed extender because I knew the entertainment center would fit in the box with the tailgate up, but not with the bed extender in there. Two days later, I was at Walmart picking up some other household stuff, and cussed myself for not re-installing it after unloading the entertainment center. I then cussed myself a second time when I had to clamber into the box of the truck & round up various bags/items that had "migrated" around the bed of the truck on the way home.
I cannot count the number of times that I have removed the bed extender and either rested it on top of or beside whatever I had loaded in the truck because I could not leave it in "grocery mode" with the load.
Fast forward to today (and by "today", I mean yesterday)...the wife & I had the bed extender in "grocery mode" to contain some groceries. After unloading, we went to Home Depot where I bought a pressure washer & new lawn mower...both in bulky boxes. Ordinarily, I would have had to pull the bed extender out, set it aside, load the boxes, and then figure out if I needed to either reinstall the bed extender or resort to just laying it on/beside everything. In this case, it took me 30 seconds to fold it up against the sides of the box, load my boxes, and be on about my business.
So, in closing, I would give Ford a big thumbs up for the new bed extender. It really is the best of both worlds.
