06 Transfer Case Fluid question

What fluid came with it from the factory and if it didn't come with SP is it ok to flush and fill it with Mercon SP?

Transfer case is a WAYYYYY dirt simple mechanism compared to transmission, and MUCH less sensitive to what oil you use. Could probably use canola oil in it.... Years ago, they used gear oil, but now that most trucks come with A/T's, they switched to ATF as the factories were already purchasing ATF by the millions of gallons so it is quite inexpensive and perfectly adequate.

The transfer case lube doesn't get as hot as an A/T, doesn't need to lubricate any clutches, isn't pumped/pressure lubing any bearings, is sealed from the atmosphere, etc.
Basically, just need to keep the bearings lubed and keep a film on gear teeth to prevent metal to metal wear. I used a synthetic DexronIII/Mercon I had left over from another project.

I believe they come with a basic Mercon or Mercon V ATF from the factory. Anyone know for sure?
