tranny fluid - SP or LV or SP

so in recent years FORD stop pitching SP and started pitching LV. But then when 6 speed trannies started to fail, restocked services centers with SP and pitched SP for 6 speeds and LV for 5 speeds.

makes me wonder if your truck originally called for SP, should you just stay with SP.

I have the chart Bullitt390.

The issue is FORD pushed everyone from LV back to SP and after folks started to have problems with 6 speeds, they makde SP avail again for 6 speeds. Apparently the LV (low viscosity) was too thin for 6 speeds. So the question is should we use SP where originally called for. No sense using LV if in 6 months to a year FORD emphasisizes SP where originally called for due to folks having problems with 5 speeds.

You're confusing the wrong 6 speed transmission... LV only for all Superduty Torqshift transmissions.

SP is still fine for the 03-10 5RW tranny if one can still acquire it.

nope...dont think so.

my 05 torque shift called for SP in 2005, then when ford had problems with their supplier, they declared LV was OK. Later...it turned out that LV caused a lot of tranny damage in 6 speeds....so ford recontracted for SP and said used SP for 6 speeds and LV for everything else.

my question is if my tranny originally called for SP, wondering if i can avoid next years news by staying with SP, evn though all the pubs say I can use LV.

LV is thinner and SP has some nice to have additives.

The problem is if you have an 08, everything says LV, but its the same transmission that was put in an 05, so why would I not want the thicker with additional additives SP?

You do realize the 5R110 is a 5 speed with the optional 4th speed? Theoretically it's a 6 speed, but Ford calls it a 5 speed, all documentation including it's name calls it a 5 speed.

Use SP all you want. It's perfectly fine to continue to use. However, currently LV is the recommended fluid and is only what Ford specifies in ALL Torqshifts regardless if they are the 5R110 or 6R140

The only Trans Ford back peddled on was the 2 little 6 speed slush boxes.

Trolls gotta be trolls...

I'd use sp if available.
