I just got off the phone with an Axel and transmission shop who said they can swap out my Dana 50 (TTB) on my 97 F250, with a Dana 60 straight front, for $1700.00 installed. Is this too good to be true?
What questions should I call back with? They also said they do not work with lift kits (for what thats worth)I also asked for a price on swapping my rear to 4.10s to match the Dana 60 front, the quote was 700.00 including gears bearings and labor (have no idea if this price is good or bad). Finally what can I expect to my gas milage going from 32s with 3.54s to 35s with 4.10. (I know... if I have to ask)
Well I'll tell ya that in western WA, you can expect to pay close to $1700 anyway just for a used Dana 60 in good condition, so I'd say that $1700 installed isn't that bad.

$1700 installed?!?! I cannot find a good condition dana 60 here in michigan for less than $2000!
$700 for gears, parts AND labor isn't too bad. I was quoted $1200 for front and rear on my F250 with good quality gears. It is usually cheaper to have both done at the same time, most places will discount ya like that. The TTB dana 50 (and other TTB's) is actually easy to change gears on since the whole pumpkin comes out and you can set it on the bench.
