Generally 80-96/97 swaps. Around 83 the sterling 10.25 came out, before that it was the D60. There is a chassis cab axle that has more narrow spacing on the perches. Not sure if drive shafts or yolks changed though.
There are always things to consider with such swaps, such as u joints and brake lines. No parts book will ever tell you that, experience or trial and error tell you that. Parts books tell you what year the part was used in, nothing more.
I do believe I had looked up the u-joints and they were the same in the drive shaft, but the next thing is if the drive shaft length remained consistent.
Measure the 70's rearend. I have heard even though the front of the frame is more narrow and nothing swaps on the front, the rear frames are close to the same and the rears will swap.
70's trucks probably also had chassis cab rearends, so be careful there also. But all chassis/cab rearends were dually rears. So if wasn't a dually rearend you should be ok.
