If I do the synthetic oil, which next oil change I thinking about, should we remove the old dino oil in the HPOP reservoir ? Or does it really matter ?

Couldn't hurt to do the HPOP oil change. I did the flush as suggested by the you-tube guy. But I did it three times. This was after the second oil change with synthetic.

First oil change: Went with Rotella 5-40 syn and a quart of Lucas syn oil additive ( I think ). Ran it 500 miles.

Second oil change: Could not believe the junk that came out of the engine. Went with my normal Redline 10-40. Did the HPOP a couple of weeks later with Redline and added a little Prolong. Couldn't hurt.

Running like a top. I'll probably do the HPOP at least once more at the next oil change then do it every third of fourth oil change.

what are you guys doing to flush the oil system? is it that additive you use right before an oil change? I,ve been running the motorcraft diesel 15-40 they started selling at walamart(couldn't beat 5 qts for 9.99 and another 10 bucks for the motorcraft filter) but reading all this and the fact that my oil comes out black as night at 3000 miles I am thinkiing about going synthetic with a bypass

I have not come across any complete 'how to's' for the diy bypass, but there seems to be quite a bit of info posted on the different boards.

DIY oil bypass - Diesel Forum - The Diesel Stop.com

My diy projects always seem to end to costing more than if I just bought
someones kit, especially when you factor in the time it takes to gather all the correct parts!

There are several places, here's one-

Blackstone Laboratories - Order Now

Cost is $19 per sample when you buy six.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it said that Rotella syn wasn't a true syn? Or was it a cover up by Shell? I don't remember but its what I use and after 10k I got a bad Blackstone report. Its true that I ran it very, very hard on a long trip pulling a 15k
5th wheel but I'm still disappointed. So, I'm going to switch next oil change to...., I haven't decided yet?

It also seems like three or four years ago when first reading on here a thread about a dispute about Amsoil. Can't remember the exact reasons for that dispute either. Like I've said before, If I had a memory I would be dangerous!
