I'm looking at buying a 2004 F150 FX4 Crew. The airbag light is on with a code 18, anyone know what that means? (in other words the light will blink once, then a space, then blink 8 times, then repeat.) Any ideas, the truck has a salvage title, and has been hit in the front end. It has since been repaired but the light is on.
PAD is evidently Passenger Airbag Deactivation. These trucks have a sensor in the passenger seat that determines the weight of the passenger, if it's too light (ie a child) it deactivates the airbag. Look under the passenger seat and make sure the wiring harness is hooked into the seat. Also, make sure the indicator lamp above the radio (take console bezel off) is plugged in as well.
Bingo, I found where the passenger airbag off light is (right above the radio). I removed the panel and it wasn't even plugged in. Plugged it in, airbag light is now off, problem solved!
I wound up buying the truck. I'll be signing the title on it this Monday! It is a prior salvage title, the truck looks nice. It needs a little work, but I think for the money I paid for it it will be a nice truck ($8500). FX4 package, etc.
