What about a starter solenoid? If the little sprocket thing isn't coming out all the way to make contact with the flex plate that'd be a possibility too right? 90k seems pretty low to be having an issue with the flex plate. Starter is not so hard to believe though.

Yea I did forget about that. The Bendix can weaken over time and not extend the starter gear to make full contact with fly wheel. Is the starter oily? If a starter gets excess oil on it from a drip or leak, they can fail pretty quickly. There was also an issue that I saw from another thread about the starter bolts coming loose. That could also cause you your issue.

Solenoid wouldn't cause poor starter engagement, it would either engage or not. If you get no cranking and your battery voltage is good, that could be starter solenoid, but if the starter is engaging the solenoid is fine.
I would first check voltages before anything else, especially since it sounds like an intermittent problem. How old is battery? Could be weak starting current so starter/solenoid isn't getting enough juice to fully engage. Are all connections clean and tight? Also, check pos and neg terminal clamps on battery. I've seen the connectors break, but still make some contact so you don't notice it until it leads to something else. (Especially since the pos is covered.)
